5 of The Most Interesting Architectural Buildings Across the World


Do you have a favorite building, or perhaps a favorite architectural style? There are so many interesting architectural buildings all around the world, whose building designs and decor styles vary greatly. Our head architect, Seth Leeb, for one has a soft spot for arts and crafts style architecture when it comes to residential builds which is usually characterized by exposed beams, open floor plans and made of natural materials like wood, stone and brick. When it comes to commercial builds, Seth likes to branch out with more unique and modern design elements. However, he still stays true to his roots by incorporating greener building practices whenever possible. While it may not be feasible to visit all of these buildings around the world, learning about them and drawing inspiration can be just as intriguing! 

 

Here are some of our favorite interesting architectural buildings from all over the globe. 

1. The Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education and Innovation — Manhattan, New York

The Richard Gilder Center is a 230,000 sq ft expansion of the infamous Natural History Museum in NYC. Opening to the public this year, the expansion will include three stories of exhibits, the most prominent one being a space where people can hang out with over 80 species of free-flying butterflies! One of the most notable features of this building is the tall  central glass atrium framed by round, cove-like skylights. 

2. The Opus — Dubai, UAE

 

Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, this eye-catching building follows this firm’s signature style elements – gravity, voids and space – by incorporating a huge, gaping hole smack dab in the middle of the build. This futuristic building houses a hotel, 12 restaurants, a rooftop bar, and 56,000 square feet of office space in Dubai. 

3. Agora Garden Tower — Taipei, Taiwan

The double helix shape of DNA was the inspiration for this building, how cool is that? The human-centered design coupled with the natural green elements incorporated throughout serves as a reminder that we are all connected and a part of nature. This residential high-rise building has balconies on each floor filled with plants, vegetable gardens, and fruit trees, creating that beautiful, cascading layer of greenery pictured above. Agora Garden Tower also promotes residents to grow their food and compost their biodegradable waste. The human-centered design coupled with the natural green elements incorporated throughout serves as a reminder to future generations that we are all a part of nature and responsible for the environment we live in.

4. The Residences at The St. Regis — Chicago, IL

Upon its completion in 2020, the Residences at the St. Regis became Chicago’s third tallest building at 1,198 ft, surpassing the Aon Center. Formerly known as Wanda Vista Tower, this luxury building features “sky 360” penthouses which give a full 360 degree view of Chicago and beautiful Lake Michigan. 

5. UNIC — Paris, France

UNIC is a trailblazer in terms of building designs in Paris, a city filled with classical style architecture. Similar to Agora Garden Tower, UNIC blurs the line between nature and building with greenery strategically placed throughout. Residents on the top floor of this 13-story building are also treated to clear views of the infamous Eiffel Tower!
